Making faith relevant by making mercy real. Mercy is an act of compassion, kindness, pity, or favor, shown towards a person or group of people. Jesus said, “Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.” (Mt 5:7) In other words, we are blessed when we show mercy to others, for then we will truly appreciate the mercy that God shows towards us. We must model and show others how much we understand the way God treats us. Since God is merciful to us, we should be merciful to others. The church needs to be an agent of mercy, especially since mercy is so rare in our society.
